Meet REAL Pam!

“I was an athlete growing up with my focus on swimming. When I was 47 I decided to start
running to help me stop smoking. I smoked for almost 30 years and would even smoke a
cigarette on the way to exercise classes. I told myself I was going to run a marathon the
following year and within 4 months of quitting I ran my 1st half marathon. The following May
I ran my first full marathon. I continued to run many races from 5ks to marathons for the
next couple of years and joined my local running club where I eventually became president.
In 2009 I was diagnosed with a DVM in my brain. I of course was training for my next
marathon and when told by my neurologist that if I continued to do anything strenuous I
would probably stroke out and die. I had 3 craniotomies over the next 6 months along with a
blood clot in my lung. I was pretty sure my racing career was over before it really got
started. But after a year I was released to start running again. I found I had a new outlook
on life and wanted to take life by the horns and up my game. That’s when I started to
triathlon.

I had a coach for 5 years who helped me ease back into racing without overdoing it. For the last 10 years I have enjoyed all levels from sprint to half Ironman. I have participated in Bike MS for 10 years along with taking up trail running. I feel like I’m slowing down a little since I turned 60 but my goal is to do triathlon till I turn 70. God really does have a plan for all of us and I know he is not done with me yet. I thank him every day for watching over me and guiding me to the right surgeon. God is great and life is good.”

Pam is what Team B*REAL is all about !!

Now it’s your turn – regardless of your age or health limitations, get out there and defy the odds. Go get your finish line!
